Junior Deacons

Selection Criteria/Eligibility
Junior Deacons must have expressed a willingness to serve and be a full Church member.  They shall be at least fourteen (14) years of age.  Prospective Junior Deacons must be recommended by the Instructor of the Confirmation Class, an ordained Minister of First Congregational Church, or the Chairman of the Board of Deacons.

Authority/Accountability/Term of Service
Junior Deacons shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Church's Board of Deacons.  Junior Deacons may be appointed for a term of one (1) year.  Terms may be renewed two (2) times.  Junior Deacons shall function with the authority delegated by adult Deacons, including exercising the right to vote on appropriate issues at the special meetings as determined by the Deacon Board.  

Junior Deacons are expected to execute the following responsibilities under the supervision of the Board of Deacons.
1. Serve as Greeters before and after regular Church services.
2. Serve as Usher as needed.
3. Assist Deacons at funerals and memorial services.
4. Serve as Youth Advisors at Board of Deacons meetings when appropriate agenda items are to be considered.
5. Execute such other appropriate duties as may from time to time be called for by the Board of Deacons.

1. To provide another means of continuing the active involvement of teenagers in the Church.
2. To increase opportunities for youth of the Church to be involved in sustaining and enhancing the spiritual life and Christian mission of the Church.
3. To promote the development of future leaders for the Church.

We will ask each Junior Deacon annually to indicate his/her desire to serve for another one (1) year term by April 1st.  Any open positions may be applied for by the applicant filling in the Junior Deacon application and submitting it to the Chairman of Board of Deacons by May 1st.
